PLANNING YOUR MOVE?
Helpful Tips to Get Ready for Your Move. Moving comes with enough pressure on its own. With YMC, you are working directly with the sales department of licensed and insured carriers who complete your move at a fair price.
01
DETAILS
Begin planning your move 4 to 6 weeks before your preferred date. The busiest season runs from May through September, and schedules fill quickly. Early planning gives you better availability and more flexibility.
02
VERIFY YOUR MOVER
Every customer should know who they are trusting with their belongings. Before booking with any company, verify their credentials through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
- Ask for the company’s USDOT and MC numbers
- Visit the FMCSA website
- Confirm active operating authority
- Confirm valid insurance
- No out-of-service orders
- Complaint history
These checks protect you from unlicensed or unauthorized operators. YMC works directly with licensed and insured carriers, and we verify this information for every move we book.
03
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
Every customer moving across state lines receives a federal booklet called Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move. This booklet is embedded as a link in every estimate you receive by email, and it explains your protections and the mover’s obligations under federal law.
- How estimates work
- What movers can and cannot charge
- How delivery windows are set
- How claims and disputes are handled
- What protections do you have under federal law

04
GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING
Never rely on a verbal promise. Before committing to any move, make sure you have written documentation for your estimate, pickup date, delivery window, any special services, and any additional fees. Written agreements protect you if anything changes later.
05
Declutter Before You Pack
The less you move, the less you pay. Go room by room and remove anything you no longer need. Donate, sell, or discard items before packing day. It saves time, reduces cost, and makes unpacking easier.
06
LABEL EVERY BOX
Label each box with the room it belongs to and a short description of what is inside. Clear labels help your movers work efficiently and help you stay organized when you arrive at your new home.
07
Know What Movers Cannot Take
Most carriers cannot transport hazardous materials, perishable food, plants, cash, jewelry, or important documents. Certain high-value or irreplaceable items should be moved by you personally.
08
Be Present on Moving Day
If you cannot be there, have someone you trust on-site. Walk through the home with the crew before loading begins. Point out fragile items, tight spaces, or anything that needs special attention. Being available prevents miscommunication and keeps the day running smoothly.
09
Stay Informed and Protected
Moving is easier when you understand the process and know your rights. Verify your mover’s credentials, and keep all paperwork in one place. A little preparation goes a long way toward a smooth and stress-free move.
